About Hakim Saul-uddin's Classes

Hakim Saul-uddin’s classes interweave teaching, practices, stories, and dialogue. Material provided is curated from videos and audios of DHO gatherings. Listening to the full camp and zoom videos may provide fuller experience of Hakim Saul-uddin’s teachings for those who have the time. To explore more content from the same camp or zoom meeting, look in Saul’s Full Length Presentations and Transcriptions at the bottom of this page or in the DHO Gathering Archives at the bottom of the More Teachings page for audio or video of the same date.

The audio classes are from DHO gatherings from 2012 to 2018 in Lama, Mount Shasta and Portland. Video classes are from more recent in-person or Zoom DHO Gatherings. Some topics are contained in both audio and video formats, which is intentional, as people take in information differently and may prefer one format over the other. Many excerpts have more than one component and are placed in the category of the majority of their content. In some cases, where the content is pertinent to more than one category, they are placed in both.

Teachings

This teaching section is divided into several categories. Please note that Hakim Saul-uddin’s stories and practices can be found in other sections by those titles. In Hakim Saul-uddin’s teaching style, stories and practices and teaching are interwoven. Listening to the audios in the Stories and Practices sections is essential to experiencing the full range of Hakim Saul-uddin’s teaching.

The DHO History and Roles subsection contains information on the DHO ranging from its mission and development to roles and initiations. The Stories sections also contain information related to the development of the DHO. Information specific to the Healing Ritual can be found in the Teaching subsection, Healing Ritual.

The Energetic Work subsection contains information on the energetic work of the DHO, including instruction and practice on moving and sending energy, teachings and discussion related to power, and instruction on spiritualizing and refining the breath. See also Moving Energy and Visualization Practices in the Practices section. Information on the development of the Healing Ritual and questions and answers about conducting the Healing Ritual can be found in the Teachings subsection, Healing Ritual.

The Healing Ritual subsection contains descriptions of the Healing Ritual, questions and answers about details of conducting the ritual, and information about its transmission and development. The stories sections also include information related to the healing ritual. For information on energetic work related to the Healing Ritual, see the Teaching subsection, Energetic Work.

The Hazrat Inayat Khan subsection includes information specific to Hazrat Inayat Khan. Information about Hazrat Inayat Khan’s transmission for the Healing Ritual is located in the Teaching subsection, Healing Ritual. Hakim Saul-uddin’s stories about Hazrat Inayat Khan and Hazrat Inayat Khan’s transmission for the Healing Order are found in the section, Stories: Other.

This Teachings subsection includes information related to intuition and guidance. A number of Saul’s stories and practices also provide teaching on this topic.

Stories

This section includes stories from the two years Hakim Saul-uddin spent with Murshid Samuel Lewis. Many of these stories contain teachings of Murshid SAM.

Godparents were the DHO’s living guides, who took the DHO under their wing and actively supported the DHO’s work. Stories about Frida Waterhouse, Hidayat Inayat Khan, Joe Miller, and Kennett Roshi, among others, can be found in this section. The regular DHO website has additional remembrances of the Godparents.

Practices

This section consists of practices led by Hakim Saul-uddin. Information about practices, definitions, and guidance related to doing practices, rather than the practices themselves, can be found in the Prayers and Practices Commentary section.

This subsection consists of chanted, intoned and sung practices. Many include an introductory concentration in which Hakim Saul-uddin offers an accompanying breath, energy practice or visualization. In others, Hakim Saul-uddin offers a short teaching. In these cases, the accompanying concentration or teaching is referenced after the name of the chant, zikr, or song. Allah chants can be found at the end of the list under Zikr Allah. Please note that prayers of Inayat Khan, both intoned and spoken, are in a separate section by that name.

This section consists of the prayers of Hazrat Inayat Khan, both spoken and intoned. Some include an introductory concentration in which Hakim Saul-uddin offers an accompanying breath, energy practice or visualization. More

At DHO Gatherings, Hakim Saul-uddin leads a variety of walks including the Toward the One walk, astrological walks, walks of the elements, the chakras, symbol walks, walks of the saints and prophets, and other teachers. This section contains all video or audiotapes available of Hakim Saul-uddin leading the walks.

Bedtime Stories and Homework

At the end of each DHO camp day, Hakim Saul-uddin often tells a bedtime story and gives homework. The lights are dimmed, and the story prefaced with “If you can, lie down and make yourself very comfortable and close your eyes.” Often the story had a surprising and delightful connection with the homework that follows. The homework at camps is a practice given to engage the dream state, with instructions to precede the homework with Murshid Sam’s protection practice, the Sufi Invocation. The next morning, Hakim Saul-uddin asks for reports and gives feedback. In Zoom gatherings, homework may instead be a suggested practice.

Full Length Presentations and Transcriptions

These videos and audio recordings are the full-length presentations of Hakim Saul-uddin from which the other classes on this page are curated. In some cases, they are excerpts from gatherings with multiple presenters. Full video of gatherings can be found in the DHO Gathering Archives section of the Home page.
